Lyndon Baines Johnson and Lady Bird had their first date at The Driskillin downtown Austin, and now the hotel is offering a special package in their honor.
The “Keeping Up with The Johnsons” deal includes two tickets to the LBJ Presidential Library, an hour of paddleboarding or kayaking on Lady Bird Lake, two cocktails in the Driskill Bar, and a stay at the historic hotel, which was built in 1886.

The Johnsons stayed at the Driskill often, always in a fourth-floor suite with a balcony overlooking Sixth Street. LBJ liked to sip his favorite cocktail, the Rusty Nail, in the Driskill’s bar, and in 1948, 1960, and 1964, the family gathered at the hotel to watch election returns.
Johnson, the 36th president of the United States, served from 1963 to 1969. Lady Bird founded the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and was instrumental in creating the hike and bike trail around Town Lake, now known as Lady Bird Lake.
You don’t have to stay in the luxurious presidential suite to get the deal, but if you do, you’ll find portraits of the famous couple hanging from one wall, and stained-glass windows adorned with Texas bluebonnets in the bathroom. A balcony overlooks Sixth Street.
