A new hotel will open in the wine and peach mecca of Fredericksburg later this year.
Albert Hotel, at 242 East Main Street, is “exactly what Fredericksburg is missing,” says general manager Mike Bolick, who shared news about the hotel at an event in Austin this week. By that, he means luxury accommodations (with a price tag to match), a full-service spa, three restaurants, two bars, an upscale event space, and more.
New Waterloo, the hospitality development and management company that operates South Congress Hotel in Austin, is behind the project, part of which will occupy four late-19th century buildings. The 109-room hotel itself, new construction, is tucked behind historic structures along Main Street. Clayton Korte designed the project.
I dropped by the Austin party (on crutches) to introduce the venue and got a hint of what’s to come. I sampled lamb chops (yum!), Frito pie and blueberry pastries, listened to music by Angel White, and chatted with Bolick about the property.
“Our goal is to provide an experience,” Bolick says.

Michael Fojtasek, a three-time James Beard ‘Best Chef, Southwest’ finalist and the force behind Olamaie, will lead the hotel’s food and beverage department. The lineup includes the Restaurant at Albert Hotel, for gourmet dining featuring locally sourced ingredients; The Pharmacy, a counter service deli housed in the historic Brockmann-Kiehne house; and Junebug’s BBQ, where customers can buy hand-rubbed meat by the pound and listen to live music as pitmasters work the smokers.
Bolick says the property will open late this summer.
