Sure, you know the Alamo. But did you know that San Antonio is also home to four additional missions – Mission Concepcion, Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan and Mission Espada — that together make up a National Park Service site and the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Texas? San Antonio Missions National Historical Park has four visitor areas, each located about 2-3 miles from the last, which are connected by a hike and bike trail that runs along the San Antonio River. To see them all, expect to bike about 30 miles roundtrip.
Photographer and explorer Maximiliano Mauriz snapped these photos of the missions, as well as some shots from the Briscoe Western Art Museum, during a recent weekend in San Antonio. He recommends Hotel Havana as a centrally located place to stay and La Fonda on Main in the beautiful Monte Vista neighborhood for a fantastic dinner.
